HOME began as a way to study light and practice photography with my iPhone. Over 9 years, this body of work became a creative project and so much more. On the surface, HOME is a scrapbook of fleeting moments when light and shadows interact with the rooms, spaces, objects, and beings inside my home at all hours of the day and seasons of the year. Photographs in this collection remind me of time spent with my wife, our 3 daughters, and our dog, Charlie. HOME documents the weekend repairs, the decorative updates, and the major renovations that transformed and refreshed our living spaces. HOME inspired my interest in still life photography using natural light as well as nighttime scenes illuminated by the flashlight from my iPhone. HOME gave me the chance to be an Artist-In-Residence within my own home. Going deeper, HOME was therapeutic for me. It was a stress release during times of adversity, emotional turmoil, and uncertainty. The project inspired my creativity during Minnesota’s frigid winter months when it was hard to make photographs outside. HOME became my art studio during the pandemic. It also nurtured my healing wounds, both physically and psychologically, after being assaulted on the streets of Minneapolis in June 2020. And now, HOME gives me a purpose to share my photographs and words with you in this physical form. Please enjoy these quiet moments from my life at home.
HOME (2026) is a 90 page softcover book (10 x 8 inches) that includes 71 black and white photographs and 6 written reflections.
